Like a child

What part of v. 17 refers to John the Baptist & which to Jesus?

The dirge _________

The dance _________

Matthew 11:16-17,  16 “To what can I compare this generation? They are like children sitting in the marketplaces and calling out to others:

17 We played the pipe for you,
and you did not dance;
we sang a dirge,
and you did not mourn.’

18 For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, ‘He has a demon.’ 19 The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Here is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.’ But wisdom is proved right by her deeds.”

The point

  • Jesus said regardless of how God has spoken to you, you do not listen.

The lesson

  • Pay attention to what God is saying to you ’cause He is always at work around you even right in front of you.

The answer

  • V. 18 – John the Baptist’s message was mourning over sin (not eating or drinking).
  • V. 19 – Jesus’ message was dancing in celebration of new life through Him (eating & drinking).

Q – What will you do today to show you are listening?
