Complicated. If life is often anything, it is surely that – complicated. So we long for the simple life and anything that promises simplicity sells: hammocks and cruises.
But after an hour swinging from a tree or returning from Cancun for the 6th time, life is still complicated. There are situations that aren’t simple and on which we have no clarity.
Oswald Chambers (OC), My Utmost for His Highest (9/14), points out that often the reason is that we try to figure it out by bringing our own wisdom to bear on a matter when the wise thing to do is simple obey.
OC (9/14), “We see like children, and when we try to be wise we see nothing.”
Matthew 11:25, “At that time Jesus prayed this prayer: “O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, thank you for hiding these things from those who think themselves wise and clever, and for revealing them to the childlike.”
Jesus actually prayed thanking the Father for letting the trusting obedient children see and for hiding the solution to those trying to figure it out.
Question – How about that for contrarian thinking?
Simple obey God. Now it’s hammock time.
